Heather Slane has been a professional music educator since 2011. Her primary instrument is french horn, which she has been playing for 23 years. She also has interests in historical music and plays a number of historical instruments, including natural horn, recorders, krummhorns, sackbutts, baroque violin and kortholt. She has been principal horn with regional orchestras in New York, Arizona and Missouri, played in brass and wind quintets across the country and was a member of a professional historical music group. She graduated summa cum laude from the Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam with degrees in Music Education and Musical Studies in Theory/ History. She has presented research in baroque brass ornamentation at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research and was a member of the honor societies of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Eta Sigma.
