I have taught private brass lessons for beginner, middle school and high school students since 2002. During that time, I taught at the Schmitt Music Store in Minnetonka, St. Barnabas Center for the Arts in Plymouth, Wayzata High School, Rogers High School and in my home studio. My students regularly achieve high rankings at solo and ensemble contests and place highly in their school band programs. My students have also been selected to participate in the Minnesota All-State Music Program. From 2019 through 2022, I taught the High Brass Instrumental Methods class to Music Education Majors at the University of Northern School of Music.
As a performer, I have played trumpet with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, the Waterloo Municipal Band and the Plymouth Concert Band. I have also been a soloist with the Plymouth Concert Band. I hold a Bachelor's of Music Education degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
I believe each person brings their own uniqueness to the studio. For that reason, I build customized courses of study for my students, utilizing materials used in students´ school band programs, as well as time-tested method books, solos and exercises. There is always time for students to learn music that particularly interests them, such as popular, movie, jazz and classical styles. Preparation for school and college scholarship auditions are often part of courses of study.
I look forward to welcoming you into the wonderful world of making music!
