Biography:

Eric has been playing piano most of his life (started age 7)! He continued lessons into college, got a degree in music at Gustavus, and there was introduced to piano teaching that came very naturally, continued teaching professionally after college (over 20 years now!). He's extended lessons after Gustavus with a year with Dr. Paul Wirth and has periodic lessons with Stephen Joven-Lee (Julliard grad). He recently started a piano trio (piano + violin and cello), Gamma Rise, for more featured performing, but has extensive experience with rocks bands, choirs, soloists and featured solos. He enjoys staying active to avoid complacency as a teacher. He also facilities two piano student recitals a year (optional) and has many students involved in MMTA contests/exams (optional).

He also has 9 years experience working with students on the Autism spectrum at Franklin Center in Golden Valley and recently started teaching at MacPhail as well. He has no firm age minimums for young beginners, only prerequisite that they are confident in left/right hand, ABC's and 123's. But he just as much enjoys helping adults get started or get back it, emphasizing a strong foundation in music theory and technique along with growing as musician. He's a very relaxed and patient teacher that treats each student uniquely, persistent at building good habits to cultivate independent thinkers and performers!
