Kathrina Skaar's love for music began at age six and was nurtured through private mentoring and competitions at the Santa Barbara Academy of Music and the Maryland Music Teachers Association (MMTA) shaping a strong foundation for her future as a performer, conductor, and educator. Throughout her college years, she performed extensively in piano, voice, and instrumental settings. One of her most memorable achievements was performing the first movement of George Gershwin's Concerto in F with orchestra at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota.
With a heart for teaching, Ms. Skaar loves to invest in students, through private teaching and mentoring. Her former teaching assignments include the University of Minnesota, Bethel University, Crown College, and several Twin Cities public & private schools. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Bethel University and her Master of Music double majoring in Music Education and Wind Band Conducting from Northwestern University, along with extensive doctoral studies at the University of Minnesota. Guided by her belief that everyone can benefit from a life filled with music, Ms. Skaar has taught many children and adults as owner of KEES Music Studio South of the River. Now, her teaching has expanded to offer lessons at Schmitt Music! Accepting piano students 5 years and older, beginner to advanced levels.
